Before we begin data projects we need to get our head on straight. The data resources we need are often informed by how we view the question.

Yes it is tempting to zoom in and get started but often it is the system thinker that wins the day.

I want to introduce you to a book by Nicholas Georgescu-Roegen about interpreting the second law of thermodynamics when discussing economic theory, the brilliant work of Mario Giampietro as a quantitative storyteller, and using a card deck to think cinematically about spatial data.
